Foo Fighters discography highlights:
-
The band is named after the World War II aircraft that were said to seek for UFOs.
-
The front man of the band, Dave Grohl, originally came to every music fan's attention as a drummer of Nirvana. After "Nirvana" singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain committed suicide and the band disbanded, Grohl switched drums to guitar and began to write songs for his solo project that eventually turned into Foo Fighters.
-
Although his songs were never played by Nirvana, Dave Grohl had written songs since his teenage years. In 1994 Grohl recorded 15 songs and gave the tape to his friends to receive feedback. This demo received a lot of attention and Grohl decided to form a band to support the demo album. The album was ultimately released in July 1995 under Roswell Records.
-
The band played their first live show the 3rd of March 1996 at Portland, United States.

During the recording of "The Colour And the Shape", William Goldsmith left the band after Dave Grohl had re-recorded his drum parts without telling to Goldsmith. Alanis Morissette's tour drummer Taylor Hawkins took his place.

The single "Learn to Fly" from their second album "There Is Nothing Left to Lose" was band's first single to reach the US Hot 100. The band recorded the album as a trio due to the departure of Franz Stahl. The band also switched their record label from Capitol to RCA.
-
The band ended up recording the songs for their forth album "One by One" twice, since they were not satisfied with how the songs sounded after the first recording session. During the recordings, Dave Grohl also helped "Queens of the Stone Age" with their album "Songs for the Deaf".
-
The band's fifth album "In Your Honor" was released as a double album: one side was full of rock songs, and the other one included only acoustic tracks.
-
The first single from the album "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" remained in the top position of single chart for 19 weeks. This single was "The Pretender".
-
The recording sessions of the album "Wasting Light" saw guitarist Pat Smear returning the band. He had re-joined the band as a touring musician in 2006, but now he became an official member again. The whole album was recorded analogically.
