He started singing in the age of four and he sang in several gospel bands during his teenage years. In 1991 Marvin Sapp joined a band called "Commissioned" and recorded three albums with them but then left the band in 1996 to start a solo career.
• "Marvin Sapp" is the self-titled debut solo album of Marvin Sapp and it was released in March 1996. The album contains 10 tracks and it was released by Sony Distribution.
• "Be Exalted" released in July 2005 was the first album of Marvin Sapp to break into US Billboard 200 Album chart. The album peaked at number 164 although it spent only one week on the chart.
• "Thirsty" is the seventh album of Sapp and it was released in July 2007. "Never Would Have Made It" was the first single of the album. The album was given gold certification in the US and it peaked at number 28 on the US album chart.
