Mayday Parade is a result of a convergence of two bands that were locally popular, in Tallahassee, United States. These bands were "Kid Named Chicago" and "Defining Moment". The resulting band did not have a name by that time but was decided during the studio sessions of their debut EP called "Tales Told by Dead Friends".

The band's debut full-length studio album "A Lesson in Romantics" was produced by Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount and it was released under Fearless record label. The album reached the second spot on Billboard 200 album chart. The EP "Tales Told by Dead Friends" was also released under Fearless label.

Their second album "Anywhere But Here" was produced by David Bendeth who has formerly produced artists like "Paramore" and "Underoath". The songs for the album were chosen a list including over fifty tracks they had made during the past couple of years.

In 2010, tour information website Songkick.com recognized that Mayday Parade had been the busiest and hard working band in the world. They played 194 concerts and traveled over 74,000 miles during the year.
