• The Airborne Toxic Event was formed in Los Angeles, United States in 2006. The band's name was taken from Don DeLillo's novel White Noise where it is a name of a section.
• The band was a duo at first consisting of Mike Jollett and Daren Taylor. But soon Anna Bulbrook, Noah Harmon and Steven Chen joined them to form a full band.
• The band played its first gig only about a month after its formation in the Echo in Los Angeles.
• The Airborne Toxic Event was named in the list of "Top 25 Bands on Myspace" by Rolling Stone magazine.

The band's self-titled debut album was released in August 2008 in the US and in February 2009 in the UK. The UK version contains three bonus tracks. The album was produced by Pete Min. The album peaked number 108 in the US album chart and number 35 in the UK album chart.
The band's second album called "All at Once" was released in April 2011 under Island Records. The album broke itself to the top 20 in US album chart peaking number 17. In the UK "All at Once" was not as successful as its predecessor.
