The Antlers began its life as a solo project of guitarist and vocalist Peter Silberman in 2006 at New York City, United States.

The debut album of The Antlers called "Uprooted" was released independently in 2006. At this time, The Antlers were solely Silberman, without any fellow musicians. Also the second album "In the Attic of the Universe" released in November 2007, was a solo album of Silberman. This album was released under Fall Records recording company not independently.

Soon after the release "In the Attic of the Universe", drummer Michael Lerner and multi-instrumentalist Darcy Cicci joined Peter Silberman to form a full band.

The third album of The Antlers, the first released as a full band was called "Hospice" and it was released independently in March 2009. The Frenchkiss Records re-released the remastered version of the album in August 2009. The album has been said to be their first concept album.

"Burst Apart" the forth album of the band was released under Frenchkiss Records in May 2011. In Japan, UK and mainland Europe the album was released by Transgressive Records. The album peaked number 82 in US album chart and number 167 in UK album chart.
