The Dangerous Summer was formed at Ellicott City, Maryland, United States in 2006 by drummer Tyler Minsberg, guitarists Bryan Czap and Cody Payne and vocalist and bass-player AJ Perdomo. The band's name refers to a novel written by Ernest Hemingway.

In 2007 the band released two EP albums. They were "There Is No Such Thing as Science" and "If You Could Only Keep Me Alive". The latter was released by Hopeless Records.

"Reach for the Sun" is the debut full-length album of The Dangerous Summer and it was released in May 2009 by Hopeless Records. The album contains eleven tracks and it was produced by Paul Leavitt. The first single of the album was "Where I Want to Be" released in April 2009. The album peaked at number 42 in Billboard's Heatseekers Album Chart. Also an acoustic version of the album was made and released digitally in March 2011.

The second studio album of The Dangerous Summer was released in July 2011 and it was called "War Paint". The album peaked at number 149 in the US Billboard Album chart and spent one week on the chart.
