The Early November was formed at Hammonton, New Jersey, United States in 2001. The founding members of the band were drummer Jeff Kummer, guitarist Jim Sacco, bassist Sergio Anelloa and vocalist and guitarist Arthur Enders.

In 2002, The Early November released two EP albums. "The Acoustic EP" was released in June and "For All of This" in December. Both albums were released via Drive-Thru Records and were produced by Chris Badami.

In October 2003 the band released its first full-length studio album called "The Room's Too Cold". The album was produced by Chris Badami and Arthur Enders and it was released via Drive-Thru Records. The album spent one week on the US Album chart peaking at number 107.

"The Mother, The Mechanic, and the Path", the second album of the band was released in July 2006. The album is divided into three parts and it contains 47 tracks and is over two hours long in length. The album peaked at number 31 on the US Billboard Album chart and spent five weeks on the chart.
