The New Pornographers was formed in 1997 at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada by Carl Newman. The band is sort of a super-group consisting of members from other popular bands such as "The Evaporators" and "Limblifter".

The debut album of the band was released by Mint Records in November 2000 and it is called "Mass Romantic". John Collins and David Carswell produced the album. The only released single of the album "Letter from an Occupant" published in April 2002.

"Electric Version", the second album of the band released in May 2003 was able to reach the Billboard's TOP200 album chart peaking at number 196 although spending only a week on the chart.

The third album of the band was released in August 2005 and was called "Twin Cinema". The album charted at number 44 on the United States, but did not reach the charts in the UK.

"Challengers", the fourth recording of The New Pornographers came to stores in August 2007. The album was produced by Phil Palazzolo, John Collins and A.C. Newman. "My Rights Versus Yours" was the first released single from the album.

"Together" which was released in May 2010 by Matador Records was the first album of The New Pornographers to reach the TOP20 of US album chart. The album peaked at number 18 and spent over a month on the chart.
