The Rapture was formed in 1998 at New York City, New York, United States by drummer Vito Roccoforte, guitarist and vocalist Luke Jenner and keyboardist Chris Relyea.

In January 1999, the band released a mini album "Mirror" via Gravity Records. The album contains only eight tracks and last 24 and half minutes.

"Echoes" is the debut full-length album of The Rapture and it was released by DFA in September 2003. The album was produced by Tim Goldsworthy and James Murphy. The album reached the second place on Billboard's Heatseekers album chart and peaked at number 121 on US Album chart.

The third album of The Rapture was released in September 2006 by Vertigo and it was called "Pieces of the People We Love". Danger Mouse, Ewan Pearson and Paul Epworth produced the album. The track "Get Myself Into It", "Whoo! Alright - Yeah... Uh Huh" and "Pieces of the People We Love" were released as singles. The album spent a week on the US Billboard Album chart peaking at number 113.

In September 2011 was released the fourth studio album of The Rapture called "In the Grace of Your Love". The album was produced by Phillipe Zdar from french house duo "Cassius".
