The Stills were formed Tim Fletcher, Dave Hamelin, Olivier Corbeil, Liam O'Neill and Greg Paquet at Montreal, Canada in 2000. All the band members had known each other since their teenage years and were all also art students by the time of formation. They all had also experience playing in other bands prior to the birth of The Stills.

The Stills released their first EP called "Rememberese EP" under Vice Recordings in June 2003. The EP was produced by Gus van Go and it included four tracks.

Their debut full-length album "Logic Will Break Your Heart" was released in October 2003 and was also produced by van Go. To support the album, the band toured in UK and North America.

"Without Feathers" was released in May 2006. The album debuted at number 6 in US Top Heatseekers chart. In Canada, it peaked number 51 in the local album chart.

In August 2008 The Stills released their third full album called "Oceans Will Rise". The album were their first release under their new recording label Arts & Crafts. Despite the label switch, Gus van Go remained their producer. The track called "Everything I Build" was featured on an episode of TV series "Defying Gravity". The track "In the Beginning" was featured on the soundtrack of the film "P.S. I Love You". The album peaked number 17 in US Heatseekers chart but didn't reached the top 200 on album chart.
